About Periwinkle Paisley Designs

Traditionally drawn, professionally designed art.

This blog is intended to be a showcase for my design collections and mockups to showcase those designs. I combine the organic feel of traditional art with the crispness of graphic design. My art reaches out to moms like myself who want a bit of color and curiosity for their family room wall, to kids who are enamoured with engaging, fanciful creatures, to teens and tweens who resinate with the curve and curl of hand drawn designs. When people see my art, they are attracted to the energy and vibrancy at first; then they notice the details and are drawn in for a closer look.
My Method:

I have a sketchbook and trusty pen that I take around with me everywhere I go. This is handy for when inspiration strikes or, when I'm bored and waiting for my daughter's soccer practice to end, I can let my imagination wander. When I have a drawing that I like, I color it and scan it into Photoshop. From there, I design repeats and additional complimentary surface patterns to form a collection. I specialize in whimsical abstracts, paisleys, swirls, mandalas or just curves and curls. My kids are always on the lookout for "what's cool" and are always asking me to draw them things: a robot, a puppy, a flower, a Halloween spider or a pretty butterfly. As you can see these doodles will make their way into my collections and even become the whole base of a collection.

My Work:

I graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a BS in Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Fine Arts. After college, I worked as a retail manager for a major chain and also for a merchandising display company. I bring all of these experiences into what I create. I enjoy the collaborative process of building an idea and bringing it to life. In making mockups, I love seeing how my art can wrap around a utilitarian product making into something fresh and exciting.
